This was my entry into the Rockler Desk Challenge. Don’t mind the fact I released it a month before the challenge was announced. I’m a trendsetter. In this era of work from home, this was the perfect desk for my lifestyle and work flow. It’s a small desk with a shallow tray style drawer that frankly just keeps me from stacking crap upon crap. The real fun in this desk came from the “peg leg”, a Japanese timber frame construction joint known as jyuji mechigai tsugi. This joint is a vertical castle joint but serves as an accent, mating hard maple and rosewood together. This desk is built primarily from hard maple, with rosewood accents, and an ebony drawer pull and finished with a classic maloof style finish. The hand planed surface is perfectly sheared creating the ultra glassy finish that will withstand the ages. Should the need arise, this desk due to it’s size can also operate as a hall or entry table. Follow along through this robust yet incredibly approachable build.
